“Tokay” is a type of gecko in SouthEast Asia, and young lovers wish on the tokay gecko’s cries late at night.  Similar to the western game of picking petals off of a flower to the chant of “he loves me, he loves me not”, lovelorn dreamers count the number of gecko calls and alternate their fortune between “single” and “married”, the predicted romantic status of the object of their affection.
